- > Presstek announces credit facility and sale of Lasertel subsidiary
-
Greenwich, CT, - Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing business solutions, today announced it has entered into a new $25 million revolving credit facility with PNC Bank, N.A. and concurrently completed the sale of its subsidiary, Lasertel, Inc. to SELEX Galileo Inc. ("SELEX").
Credit Facility:
The new facility with PNC Bank is a three-year revolving credit facility which allows Presstek to borrow against certain assets of the Company up to a maximum of $25 million. Under the credit facility the Company has the option of selecting an interest rate of either the then applicable London Inter-Bank Offer Rate (minimum of 1%) plus 3.5% or the Prime Rate plus 2.5%. In connection with the closing of the PNC facility the Company repaid all outstanding amounts under its previously existing $25 million credit facility.
"We are very pleased to establish this relationship with PNC Bank. We feel their commitment to Presstek reaffirms our strategy and is testimony to the confidence they have in our ability to execute our initiatives," said Jeff Jacobson, Presstek's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "With the new credit facility in place, we believe that we have sufficient capital to meet our current financing requirements and fuel our future growth."
Lasertel Sale:
Presstek completed the sale of Lasertel to SELEX on March 5, 2010 for approximately $10 million, comprised of $8 million in cash and $2 million of laser diode inventory for Presstek's future product requirements. The Company expects to recognize a gain on the sale of Lasertel within discontinued operations of approximately $0.5 million, subject to final adjustments. The net cash proceeds have been used to pay down debt. As part of the transaction, Presstek has entered into a two-year laser diode supply agreement. SELEX also will assume the current lease on the Lasertel property in Tucson, AZ.
"The sale to SELEX places Lasertel into a large organization whose core business is closely aligned with Lasertel's mission," commented Jacobson. "At the same time, it allows Presstek to focus on our core business. While selling Lasertel has been a key objective during the past year, we needed to ensure that we received an appropriate value for Lasertel. We are pleased that we are able to accomplish that objective with this sale."
"Today we have announced the completion of two critical milestones in driving Presstek forward. The closings of the Lasertel sale and the new credit facility represent major steps toward clearing the way for Presstek to fulfill its strategic goals," added Jacobson. "These types of activities can take an enormous amount of time and effort to complete. We look forward to the opportunity to increase, even more, our focus on driving our strategy and delivering our message to the market."

- > GMG and Canon to bring a new generation of proofing systems to market
-
Tuebingen - GMG, developer and supplier of high-end color management and proofing solutions, today announced the launch of a highly innovative proofing system comprising of Canon's brand-new imagePROGRAF iPF8300/iPF6350/iPF6300 inkjet printers, and supported by GMG ColorProof, GMG FlexoProof XG and GMG DotProof XG contone and halftone proofing solutions. To ensure the highest production reliability and finest quality proofing results, the printer has been optimized for GMG's superior inkjet proofing substrates.
This joint solution is the result of extensive technological collaboration between GMG and Canon, bringing to market an integrated software and hardware package for high-end contract proofing applications that meet both GMG and Canon quality standards. GMG's ColorProof contone proofing software and the FlexoProof XG and DotProof XG halftone proofing modules enable the GMG/Canon proofing system to achieve maximum color accuracy and repeatability. GMG DotProof and GMG FlexoProof produce genuine, absolutely color-accurate halftone proofs by directly processing 1-bit imagesetter data. Thus, they can be inexpensively proofed on inkjet printers to save time and money and to detect file problems at an early stage before going on press.
Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8300/iPF6350/iPF6300 printers have been specifically designed for the high-end graphic arts market, including photographic, fine art and proofing applications. It adopts the newly developed unique 12-pigment ink printing system "Lucia EX", providing a 20% wider color gamut compared with previous models and delivering absolutely precise prints of exceptional scratch resistance.
According to Mr. Detlef Frey, pre press operator at Heinendruck, Duesseldorf, "the powerful color management technology of GMG ColorProof delivers 100% production reliability on a daily basis. The printer driver, which GMG has developed specifically for this printer, allows absolute accuracy in simulating the printing result on our presses, while the software and hardware are very easy to operate. In particular, the extremely intuitive calibration process, guaranteeing outstanding consistency and repeatability, doesn't require extensive know-how."
Tatsuji Saito, Group Manager Media Design Section at Tone Up Corporation, Tokyo, adds, "We have been consistently focusing on digital halftone proofing with inkjet devices. The combination of the imagePROGRAF iPF6350 printer and GMG DotProof XG enables highly color accurate proofing of 1bit TIFF data. As a result, this new system is perfectly suitable for advertising, where halftone reproduction and offset printing replication is required".
Meanwhile, the new GMG/Canon proofing system has been certified according to the Fogra 39L, IDEAlliance SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publications) and GRACoL (General Requirements and Applications for Commercial Offset Lithography) standards. GMG ColorProof received the certification with Canon iPF 6300/6350/8300 on GMG ProofPaper gloss 250, GMG ProofPaper semimatte 250 and GMG ProofPaper semimatte light. GMG DotProof XG proofing software received the FOGRA certification for halftone proofing with Canon iPF 6350 on GMG ProofPaper semimatte 250. IDEAlliance SWOP and GRACoL certifications have been granted to GMG ColorProof with Canon iPF 6300/6350/8300 on GMG ProofPaper semimatte 250.
"We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with a global player such as Canon", says Paul Willems, CEO of GMG GmbH & Co. KG. "I am confident that this successful relationship is of huge benefit to graphic arts professionals. GMG's color management know-how is focused in this new proofing solution to provide outstanding print quality. The introduction of a new range of inkjet proofing printers by Canon clearly accentuates the importance this segment still has. But we are even more pleased that Canon selected GMG as their key global partner, recognizing our market and technology leadership in this demanding segment," says Willems. "This expansion of our portfolio makes GMG the only supplier in the market to support the complete range of high end proofing devices across all manufacturers."

- > Inca Onset S20 widens colour options at IPEX
-
Inca Digital demonstrates an enhancement to the high-performance, wide-format Inca Onset S20 UV inkjet flatbed printer at IPEX on the Fujifiilm stand (9-CD360). Inca will unveil an expanded gamut capability using Uvijet Ultratone ink to increase quality perception. This, coupled with Inca's use of 28 picolitre drop print heads, produces smooth colour transitions reducing the graininess of light colours and producing smooth skin tones. This capability is critical for closely-viewed point of sale advertising, particularly for high value cosmetic and fashion products.
Since its launch last year, the Inca Onset S20 has redefined the digital large format market by enabling companies to offer print volumes on a wide variety of materials with shorter turnaround times at highly competitive prices. Today Inca Onset S20s are in operation around Europe and are now starting to ship more widely, with buoyant sales continuing as companies invest to enhance their production capabilities. With the capability to print edge to edge onto substrates of 3.14m x 1.6m and 50mm thick, at speeds of up to 250 sq m/hr, it also features a gloss level control to produce finishes from matt, through satin to high gloss, depending on application. This brings massive versatility in the range of products that can be printed, e.g. display POS, exhibition graphics, backlit/frontlit displays and outdoor signage for customers with both screen printing and commercial printing backgrounds.
Flexibility is a key feature of the Inca Onset S20 and the ability for printers to choose a colour configuration to suit their business is an important factor in its success. The introduction of light cyan and light magenta expands its capabilities and opens up lucrative new sectors for printers.
At Ipex, Inca will also demonstrate the benefits of efficient production using its new Print Run Controller (PRC) software module. PRC assists in the production of an individual order incorporating different elements whether they are images, text variations or languages. It is also applicable when a large number of images need to be output in varying quantities with variable elements to a large number of recipients.
PRC's ability to streamline the overall production process allows digital output on medium - longer run lengths to compete where even screen and litho are unable to provide cost effective solutions. With high speed printing rates making digital production more versatile and profitable, PRC allows users to schedule the print order and produce print jobs quickly and simply to prevent RIP and workflow bottle-necks, streamline production, thereby reducing both operator error and post-print collation requirements.
"These latest developments show how Inca continues to break new ground in large format digital printing functionality and out perform traditional technologies," says Linda Bell, CEO, Inca Digital. "Ipex is an excellent opportunity to showcase the power of the Inca Onset S20 and demonstrate why it has become a market leader in such a short time."
